Introduction:

A ladyfriend of mine has an enduring passion for just about any kind of vampire story. When she asked why I've never written a vampire story, I told her I thought the whole concept of vampires was ridiculous.
"Well," she said, twisting a lock of her red hair around an index finger and trying to look wistful while holding back a snicker, "If you really love me, you'll write something anyway. Just for me."
Uh, huh. These little tests occur periodically; they're a standing joke based on a certain female friend's tendency to try to manipulate men - and just about anyone else who'll stand still for it - with the same 'hair-twisting little girl' routine.
Samantha's six feet tall and plays college volleyball. A 'little' girl she most definitely isn't.
But I'm an easy mark for red-headed women with green eyes and long legs, so here's the story:

NOTE: An astute reader brought up what appeared to be an 'error' regarding terminology in this story. I agreed that the majority of readers would think it an error and changed it, but by way of explanation, read the following...

A few readers knowledgeable of that time and place may remember that the 'PX' at Dong Tam was a branch of the Air Force 'BX' at Tan Son Nhut airbase. You may even remember that the sign in the corridor said 'BX' until someone painted out the bottom of the 'B' in late 1969 to make it a 'P', but please bear in mind that this story was written as a work of fiction, not an attempt to accurately record historical data. :)
